Carers

Carers Scotland is the Scottish national office of Carers UK. It is the only Scottish carer-led organisation working for all carers. Carers Scotland campaigns for a better understanding of the issues affecting and services needed for carers under three themes:
Equality
Carers should not suffer poverty or social exclusion as a result of their caring role. They have the same right as everyone else to public services, a social life, and access to the world of work and education.
Empowerment
Campaigning for carer equality is about empowering carers to speak up for themselves and ensuring carers a much more visible group in society.
Partnership
Carers have recently been designated "key partners in the provision of care". Carers Scotland works to make this more of a reality, by promoting partnership working between the voluntary sector, government, health and social work authorities and, most importantly, carers themselves.
Carers Scotland's work involves:
Policy and Good Practice
- Persuading all those taking decisions affecting carers - in both national and local government - to adopt policies and practices which will deliver real choices for carers
- Providing information and advice to carers and to workers in the statutory and voluntary sector.
- Campaigning and raising awareness of the role of carers and the contribution they make to their communities.
- Providing training to workers in the voluntary and statutory sector on topics related to carers and community care.
