'Collect pensions early on Christmas Eve'

December 14, 2007
Older people who receive only a state pension will be able to collect the cash from their local Post Office on Friday December 21st, a UK charity advises.

However, Help the Aged reports that due to a decision by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), elderly people who receive pension credit or disability benefits will not be able to collect their cash after 12:30 GMT on Monday December 24th.

Policy manager at the older people's charity Anna Pearson states that it is disappointed with the DWP for not making better plans for the elderly over the festive season.

"They will be left with precious little time to get to shops on what is already an incredibly busy and hectic day," she adds.

As such, Help the Aged advises people to plan ahead, use cash machines and purchase their festive goods in advance.

The charity campaigns across the UK, running over 400 forums of older people as well as through partnerships with others organisations.
