Brits planning for retirement excitement

October 29, 2007
Britons are preparing for a fun-filled retirement, new research has suggested.

A study by Abbey Savings has indicated that almost half (44 per cent) of consumers are planning a round-the-world trip for when they retire.

It was also noted that retired people feel - on average - 16 years younger than their actual age and a third still feel that they are attractive to the opposite sex.

Some 25 per cent intend to take up a new sport or active pursuit and over a tenth (11 per cent) would like to learn how to play a musical instrument in their senior years.

Head of savings at Abbey Reza Attar-Zadeh commented: "Clearly Brits are enjoying their retirement."

In related news, Alliance & Leicester noted today that 13 per cent of people over the age of 55 take more than five holidays per year and that 54 per cent of those over 50 view travelling more as a high priority for the next five to ten years.
