An 'invisible' protest will take place at Westminster tomorrow to highlight concerns that the rights of old people are being ignored by the government.
Dressed in dark glasses, hats and bandages so they resemble HG Wells' Invisible Man, protestors from the National Pensioners Convention (NPC) will join a rally and lobby MPs.
The NPC also is supporting the launch of a Pensioner's Charter to provide basic rights for older people, including free nationwide travel, restoring the link between pensions and earnings next year and banning age discrimination.
NPC general secretary Joe Harris states that the demonstration comes at a time when pensioners are becoming angry at the way their needs are being "overlooked" by the government.
"Three million older people will have died before the government restores the link with earnings and the £3.40-a-week rise in the state pension next year will do nothing to end the poverty felt by 1 in 5 older people," he says.
Earlier this month, the NPC accused the government of "abandoning a generation of women to poverty" following the revelation that 754,000 female pensioners between 60 and 69 do not receive a state pension due to insufficient National Insurance contributions.
