Ongoing research into the drinking habits of Britons has discovered that older generations are less likely to change their ways than their younger counterparts.
The survey, which uses data from visitors using the Drinkaware Trust website, found that 59 per cent of people said they would change their drinking habits or would consider doing so after using the online resource.
However, 65 per cent of 18 to 25-year-olds said they would do this, which is almost twice the amount of those aged over 66 who said the same.
Residents in the north of the UK were most likely to change their alcohol consumption followed by the Scots and Northern Irish, the survey also found.
The website provides information on issues such as advice for drinking during the holiday season and the effects of too much alcohol, although the most popular tool is the unit calculator, which people can use to work out how many units are in each drink.
Meanwhile, a new study published this week in medical journal Sleep found that insomnia affects nearly half of people aged over 65, reports Science Daily.
