Wealthy retirees should seek pensions advice from an independent financial adviser (IFA) rather than using newspapers and other financial media, according to the managing director of Key Financial Consultants.
Dominic Mansley outlined that with more pensioners retiring with greater wealth it was "imperative that they do make sure that what they end up with what is right for them".
Mr Mansley indicated that by seeking independent financial advice, the customer would be more protected as such recommendations can be questioned.
He went onto suggest that financial news often picks up on the actions of providers and takes a more guarded view due to the wide range of individual circumstances of readers.
"Quite often [financial news] does get used as advice by individuals who perhaps don't have access to individual financial advisers. There's an onus on publications with large readerships to really tread cautiously with what they say," Mr Mansley said.
