The Blood Pressure Association (BPA) has offered five "key" tips to help people improve their health by lowering their blood pressure.
A spokesperson for the charity said that people should reduce their salt intake and ensure they do not consume more than six grams daily.
Meanwhile, eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables - fresh or frozen - will improve blood pressure, as will exercising for 30 minutes at a time, five times a week.
Moderate alcohol intake is also advised, as is maintaining an ideal weight.
The BPA spokesperson said: "Not only will these changes lower their blood pressure for life, they will also help to reduce their risk of certain cancers and other health problems."
According to the British Heart Foundation, three adults in every ten in England suffer from high blood pressure.
The BPA claims poor blood pressure control leads to 62,000 fatal strokes and hearth attacks occurring per year.
