Average rucksack and contents 'worth £450'

January 29, 2008
Older people who have a taste for the outdoors may well find that they are carrying more valuable items around than they think, according to new research by AA Insurance.

A study by the provider suggests that the average backpack and contents is now worth roughly £450, with the top essential rucksack items including mobile phones, digital cameras and mp3 players.

Almost three-quarters (73 per cent) of respondents stated that their mobile phone was essential and a similar amount (72 per cent) would not leave home without a digital camera to take some snaps along the way.

Christian Young, head of AA Travel Insurance, comments: "With all these technological treasures in their bags it has never been more important for backpackers to ensure they are fully insured so that they can explore with peace of mind."

Meanwhile, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy recently stated that playing games on the Nintendo Wii console can contribute to the recommended 30 minutes of daily exercise that people should aim to take part in.
