Many factors can cause spots, says the BAD

January 22, 2008
Those concerned over the condition of their skin may find they benefit from information given in recent days by the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD).

Nina Goad, from the BAD, explained that certain hair products, clothing and make-up can cause spots that may lead to acne, which can affect people later in their lives.

She explains that sweating under a hat which rests against the forehead can lead to break-outs of spots, while makeup can clog the pores and as such should be thoroughly removed before going to bed.

Ms Goad also advises consumers who suffer from acne to use non-comedogenic products as they should not result in pore blockages.

"Whether or not to squeeze depends on the spot - if it is has a white head it may be fine, but if it is red and inflamed, it is best to leave it. Squeezing can cause scarring, so never force it," she concludes.

The British Skin Foundation reports that acne tends to resolve by a person's early twenties.

However, the organisation also notes that the condition can persist for longer period of time.
