Colonic hydrotherapy can be really good for detoxing the body and could be particularly beneficial for people with digestive concerns, according to one expert.
Karen Horn, a colonic hydrotherapist at the Body Works Clinic, explained how the procedure can remove waste that has collected in a person's bowels and that many people include the process in their new year detox plan.
Ms Horn makes clear that colonic hydrotherapy is not a method of weight reduction, but she suggests the procedure is beginning to generate more interest in the UK because the average Briton's diet is "so poor".
"Colonic hydrotherapy is really good when you are detoxing because the bowel gets rid of all the waste," she said.
"January and February get very busy because people go mad at Christmas and overindulge, and it's a case of 'right, it's January, I am going to detox'."
Colonic hydrotherapy is recognised by experts as a worthwhile detoxifying treatment, but the Food Standards Agency has dismissed so-called 'detox diets' as being "nonsense".
